A-ROD JOINS ELITE COMPANY WITH 600TH HOMER
A-ROD JOINS ELITE COMPANY WITH 600TH HOMER
The Yankees' Alex Rodriguez became the youngest player and just the seventh overall to hit 600 homers, connecting on a first-inning blast Wednesday off Blue Jays starter Shaun Marcum at Yankee Stadium. Taking place eight days after his 35th birthday, the milestone clout came on the same Aug. 4 date as his 500th homer three years earlier. Rodriguez is a year and 188 days younger than Babe Ruth was when he swatted 600 and is the fourth quickest to the mark in terms of at-bats, getting to 600 in his 8,688th at-bat, behind Ruth (6,921), Barry Bonds (8,211) and Sammy Sosa (8,637). Rodriguez joins Bonds (762), Hank Aaron (755), Ruth (714), Mays (660), Ken Griffey Jr. (630) and Sosa (609) as the only players to hit 600 or more home runs in Major League history. Ruth is the only other Yankee to reach the milestone. (Source: MLB Insider
