The darnedest thing about being deaf…

What is about the darnedest thing you can say about being deaf? First, before we do that, let’s go to the dictionary to find out what the word, darnedest, means.

darnedest (uncountable)
-The maximum or the best possible.
I did my darnedest to stay awake.

With that being said, here's my top ten list of what I think is the darnedest thing about being deaf!

  1. No need to worry about hearing loss…what?
  2. Sleep is a no-brainer:  deafies are the best sleepers in the world. Period.
  3. Our lip-reading skills are extraordinary; we can, in theory, run the best spy network without the use of technology!
  4. Underwater communication is at its very best. Why use a pencil and board when you can use your own hands!
  5. Telemarkers despises calling us.
  6. If someone is annoying, rude, disgusting, loud, obnoxious, or even, just plain idiotic, we can just ignore them or turn off our hearing aids.
  7. We love the music LOUD! Just to the breaking point…
  8. Huh?
  9. Deaf do not “gossip” in places, but it’s such a small world, that you better be careful on what or who you gossip about ;-)
  10. If someone pissed you off, you can curse in sign and nobody will have a clue to what you just said, unless, you know American Sign Language (ASL) or deaf slang ;-)

These are my top ten. Now I’d love to hear what yours are!

  1. You will get to travel a lot and meet many different people because the deaf world is small, but spread all over a big world.
